As a consultant with the Shine Network, I was enthusiastic about bridging the gap between home, therapy services, and school to create an inclusive learning environment for autistic scholars in grades K through 12. With the support of staff, we pinpointed obstacles and worked to eliminate barriers to integrate sensory- based approaches and activities, promoting self- regulation, accessibility, coping skills, and inclusivity across school environments. By promoting awareness of sensory preferences, recognizing sensory overload, arousal levels, and communication styles, and having access to the appropriate sensory supports, we increased student engagement and participation, ultimately leading to better learning and social outcomes.
